Casio continues to improve its PROTREK series of outdoor watches featuring sensor technology by incorporating advice from expert mountain climbers and trail runners. The PRG-130 released in 2008 gained popularity as the first triple-sensor watch with 200-meter water-resistance. New G-Shock Mudman

Casio announced the release of a new shock-resistant model in its G-SHOCK MUDMAN line of dust-resistant, mud-resistant watches. Equipped with magnetic and temperature sensors, the new G-9300 displays both compass bearing and temperature.

Since the release of the original G-SHOCK watch in 1983, the brand has continued to evolve, with advanced functions, construction and design all based on outstanding shock resistance. As part of its “Master of G” series of watches designed for use in harsh environments, Casio has developed the high-pressure water-resistant G-Shock FROGMAN, the mud-resistant G-Shock MUDMAN, the rust-resistant G-Shock GULFMAN, and the high-altitude-ready G-Shock RISEMAN. These watches have been well received for further increasing the toughness of the G-SHOCK brand.

The new G-9300 is a solar-powered, shock-resistant G-SHOCK MUDMAN. It boasts resin-covered buttons and construction that helps to keep dust and mud out of the watch, developed for use in harsh environment like deserts and jungles. The watch is intended, in particular, to provide the reliability and functionality needed for several-day rally racing through a desert region.

With one press of the large button at the 3 o’clock position, the user can get a compass bearing, no matter what functional mode the watch may be in. In an environment like the desert where there are few landmarks, the G-9300 allows the user to immediately confirm orientation. In addition, a circular LCD indicator at the 10 o’clock position provides a graphic compass.

When bivouacking between rally stages, the G-9300 can show the dramatic temperature changes between day and night that occur in the extreme environmental conditions of the desert. There is also an indicator at the 9 o’clock position that displays a graphic of the moon phases. This makes it possible to determine how bright the moon will be for activities come nightfall. Casio Edifce Watches

Casio announced today the release of a new EDIFICE metal watch. Designed to resemble the gauge of a sports car, the new EFR-501 chronograph features multiple hands, including hands specifically for the alarm and several hands for the stopwatch functions, thereby enhancing the readability of the watch.

Capturing the essence of speed and intelligence, EDIFICE metal watches evoke a sense of velocity and motor sports energy with the movement of the hands, their rich stopwatch functions and their distinctive face designs.

In addition to a 1/20-second stopwatch, the new EFR-501 also has a dedicated hand in the center of the dial for setting alarm times.

The alarm is switched on and off using a small indicator at the 7 o’clock position, while the alarm time is shown by a black hand with a red tip, for enhanced readability. The large hour and minute hands exude presence, and the date indicator at the 3 o’clock position also displays dates for the previous and next days for greater clarity.

The stopwatch function offers precise time measurement. The small indicator at the 6 o’clock position indicates each 1/20 of a second, while the central second hand measures full seconds. The indicator at the 12 o’clock position measures the minutes over one hour, while the indicator at the 9 o’clock position measures the hours up to five hours. The masculine look of the dial, which employs carbon fiber like often used in motor sports, is accentuated by the metal parts of the indicators and the array of hands, which combine to evoke the feel of automotive gauges. The large and sturdy stainless-steel case features a screw-lock crown engraved with the EDIFICE logo.

Casio has renewed its contract with the Red Bull Racing Formula One team, last year’s F1^™ world champion, to continue serving as a Red Bull Racing Team Partner for the 2011 season. Casio EDIFICE has been designated as the official team watch for the third consecutive year, and the Casio logo will appear on racing suits worn by current world champion Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber, as well as on the mechanics’ uniforms. The PROTREK series of outdoor watches make the most of Casio’s cutting-edge sensor technology to measure various kinds of natural data. Using separate sensors to gauge magnetism, pressure, and temperature, the triple-sensor models can display compass bearings, atmospheric pressure/altitude and temperature. This makes PROTREK watches very popular, not only among climbing enthusiasts, but also people who enjoy trekking and camping.

The new PRW-2500 is an all-round triple-sensor model that can be used in a wide range of settings including mountain, ocean and river environments. The watch not only offers the compass bearing and altitude features necessary for mountain climbing, but also strong water-resistance for river climbing and river rafting where the user may encounter strong water pressure, as well as convenient tide information for sea kayaking and fishing. It is even ideal for extreme adventure racing, which combines two or more endurance disciplines into a single outdoor race.

With a large display delivering outstanding readability, the PRW-2500 has a dual-layer LCD construction. The sensor and other data are shown on the upper and lower LCDs, allowing the user to easily see the desired information.

For the compass function, the upper LCD shows a graphic of the compass bearings, while the lower level displays the current time, bearing and bearing angle. For the tide function, the tide level graphic is displayed on the upper level, while the date, time, and moon phase and age are shown on the lower level. The vivid blue transparent graphic on the upper LCD still allows the graphics on the lower LCD to be seen underneath, maintaining good watch readability.

In addition to being displayed numerically and in a trend graph, atmospheric pressure is shown using simply designed arrow icons which depict characteristic barometric pressure patterns. This function was developed under the supervision of a meteorologist. Consequently, an upward arrow is displayed when the atmospheric pressure suddenly rises, forecasting better weather ahead. A downward arrow appears when the pressure suddenly falls, indicating weather deterioration. There are also arrow icons to show when rising pressure changes to falling pressure, or vice versa, making it easy to ascertain weather changes.

Naturally, the PRW-2500 can also measure altitude based on changes in atmospheric pressure. It not only displays the current altitude up to 10,000 meters, but also shows the current time and the recent change in altitude at the same time. This is handy for monitoring the pace of ascent up a mountain.

Among its strong basic features, the PRW-2500 employs radio-controlled technology for automatic time calibration using standard radio waves from six transmitters around the world. It also boasts the reliability of solar-powered time keeping. Finally, the watch’s basic shape and design make it easy to use as an essential tool, the softer resin watchband adds comfort, and the large compass bezel and buttons ensure good operability.
