This watch looks like it belongs in, 2001: A Space Odyssey directed by the late auteur, Stanley Kubrick. This is the main reason I bought it. The strategic use of teal accents are a perfect touch—they make it look like the glow of an interface on a digital control panel found in the cockpit of a spacecraft. I feel that plain black and white would have just been too clinical and stark. The round shapes and use and placement of black and white also reminds me of the EVA pods of the Discovery One. This watch just feels like a lost prop that has suddenly turned up like the mysterious monoliths in the film.
Now, this watch is thick. It's the thickest G-shock in my collection. The detachable urethane bezel on the face and the screwed resin bezel on the stainless steel back plate adds to the watches thickness which is 18.7mm thick! Despite its chunkiness, it is very light thanks to the Carbon Core Guard structure inside the case—the very same found in the popular CasiOak model.
The pill and circle shaped displays above the main display are sadly just cosmetic, and fill up and empty according to the passed seconds. The original model of this watch had a temperature sensor as well as a sunrise and sunset indicator and this is where that info was displayed. Likewise the dimples on the bottom of the removable bezel are also for show and are not functional since the temperature sensor has been removed. This current configuration of the watch with bluetooth connectivty seems to be more about aesthetics and there are some colourways that can make this watch look like a cheap and gaudy children's toy.
It is a polarising design and one that doesn't quite look like a G-shock what with all its soft rounded shapes like soft serve ice cream. This Sci-fi World Series colour scheme however had me obsessed. I went away and came back to it for two months before purchasing it. I dont regret it and it's been living on my wrist for the past three weeks. I only hope the white on the case does not yellow over time as it would more than likely ruin the aesthetic. A yellowed white would probably make this look more like Jason's hockey mask from Friday the 13th—hence this watches nickname, Jason—and maybe it could evolve into the Slasher Horror Series if I can mod the watch and change the teal accents to crimson red.
The only drawback with this model is the use of negative LCD displays of the dials. These are never easy to read, but I can't imagine this watch working as well looks-wise with a positive display. If legibility is more important to you— specifically legibility at a glance—I would look elsewhere, but for me, this is a trade-off I don't mind. This watch in its entirety makes me smile whenever I stare at it. It reminds me of my love for the timeless sci-fi aesthetic of 2001 whose designs and effects still hold up today and I can imagine this watch looking at home on the wrist of astronaut, David Bowman as he traverses the desolate gaps between our planets to his inevitable destination.
The original Casio rubber strap did not last with the watch. The new strap will surely outlast the G-Shock and is also cool (in both meanings) on my wrist.
Strap doesn't fit on G-Shock Mudrunner when it didnt state anywhere which models it wouldnt cover. Now expected to cover transport costs to return. Would've almost been cheaper for me to buy a new watch.
Watch performs exactly what it states it does it does - simple good watch.
Received promptly and as expected service wise
The watch works really well. bought it for the countdown timer and vibrate function, which work really well. However, as it was for my daughter the watch and strap is quite big and bulky, it would be amazing if there were ladies watches with the same functionality.
Excellent, very stylish look and well made
My husband loves the look and fit. Perfect for everyday use.
Beautiful time piece, easy to work through the settings. I love the dial colour as well. Definitely recommend this watch.
Love Casio, works the best for my line of work, can handle anything from water or mud and knocks. Delivery was awesome once again.
I searched for my new Seiko watch and corresponded via SA “official Seiko brand dealerships” without success. TCS not only found the genuine 2024 Seiko watch I was looking for, but for a bargain price, and delivered on time. Fantastic TCS 👌
Not easy the see time arms against the background
I love the watch, it’s a great piece of art. The bracelet could be better though and the delivery/collection process.
A 90s classic in colours for outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers, of which I am neither. I've always wanted a DW 6900, but was always put off by its seemingly large dimensions. I have a 6' wrist and it was only after watching The Mad Watch Collector on YouTube wearing his OG DW 6900 featured in Mission Impossible 2 on his 6' wrist that I took the risk thinking—if it fits his wrist, it should fit mine... Right? Well, I haven't been disappointed and this watch—while being a beast because hey, it's a G-Shock, does fit on my wrist without looking like a can of tuna. It's the largest size of G-Shock I can probably get away with which kind of shatters my dreams of getting a Rangeman which is larger. I might still buy one though and use it as a desk clock. This watch is iconic for its three eye/triple graph, which is more of a cosmetic feature than something that is actually functional. The eyes look like turbines that fill up as they count seconds that total up to one minute, thereafter they clearl and start filling up again. If you want functionality, look to the GW 6900 with Tough Solar and Multiband 6, the latter being useless if you live in South Africa and not in the northern hemisphere where the radio towers that a watch with Multiband 6 syncs to are located. This watch is all about the silhouette and the dial. It looks simultaneously futuristic and retro and it looks like some sort of mecha tank when viewed from the sides. The display is crisp and legible when viewed straight on which is a relief because some Casio digital displays can look a bit grey or washed out when viewing them directly. The functions here are at their most basic. There's time in 12 or 24 hour formats, counting seconds, day, date and month on the home screen, then there's a stopwatch, countdown timer and alarm. The alarm is a flashing alarm which means the backlight will flash with the alarm if you enable this setting. The backlight is LED and is bright. I miss the electroluminescent backlights that would light the entire screen evenly as well as the aquarium blue-green colour, but they do consume more battery life. There is no tilt your wrist to activate the backlight or world time on here which is a pity about the latter, but it's also not a deal breaker—again, look to the GW 6900. This model is essentially the same as the one released in 1995. It's the two-tone colour that drew me to this variant. I love the warm orange accents on some of the text and the larger eye on the right. It's a very literal representation of the tactical nature that G-shocks are associated with. It's utilitarianism personofied. I also really like the metal light button under the screen that has a great knerled texture that is just the right amount of rough that won't scrape the skin off your fingers and just adds to its toolish aesthetics. I mentioned the watch oozes outdoor explorer. I am not into gorpcore, but this watch fits that fashion trend perfectly if you're into wearing head-to-toe Patagonia or The North Face etc in urban and work environments. Overall I love this watch and the it's purchase was a happy convergence of circumstance. As usual, great service from The Casio Shop. The watch arrived in three days from order and all in perfect condition, including the packaging.
This watch is the first watch that I think Casio got correct in terms of size it’s a little larger than the small fw-91 and more flatter skinnier than the A168. It still has the old look and feel of a vintage Casio. The watch has a Bluetooth functionality and this ensure the time is always synced with my phone . The step counter works great and the backlight is adequate when in the dark. The watch doesn’t require charging. It also has a helpful mobile phone finder function where a misplaced phone is located via ringing with the push of a button on the Casio . For those comparing this to other smart watches don’t . At its core this is still a Casio first with added functions that work great . Overall I’d say this is a good buy and well worth it.
Not only was the bumper right but the payment and delivery was excellant.
Thanks
